How long have you been a member of the team?
What is your favorite pastime?
I love to read! My favorite author is Haruki Murakami. He writes metaphysical novels (so I don’t really know what’s going on, but that’s what I love about his books).
What is your favorite band?
Arcade Fire—they’re this insanely talented, passionate band from Quebec.
What got you interested in robotics?
In the 10th grade, I sat next to a robotics team member, Matthew Chai, in geometry class and he told me about robotics and it sounded really interesting. Also, I saw articles in the school newspaper about the team, and in the pictures, there were very few girls, so I wanted to join to change that.
What is your favorite thing about robotics?
The friends I’ve made! I’ve made some of my best friends through robotics, since there’s nothing that makes a friendship stronger than staying at school until 9 at night during build season! Also, I’ve always liked math and science, but engineering was just some thing that I knew existed but had never considered, so I’m grateful that robotics has helped me discover my passion for engineering.
Any final comments?
If I hadn’t joined robotics, I probably wouldn’t have discovered my passion for engineering, had an internship with a tech company, or applied to Cornell to study engineering, but all these things happened to me (and I’m Cornell c/o 2019!), so I’m forever grateful that I did join.
I encourage people to stick with robotics or to join, because it’s not just about robots—it’s about friendship, volunteering, learning, mentoring, and growing—and through robotics, anything can happen!
